    Being a R.E.A.L. Christian – Part 1

One thing I have learned since being involved in this ministry is that there are many Christians who are compromising the authority of the Word of God.  It is too easy for Christians to become agreeable and non-offensive with others due to the desire to “keep the peace.”  However, we are not called to be “peace keepers;” rather, we are called to be “peace makers” (Matthew 5:9).  Our goal is to be making peace between a holy God and sinful man through the gracious sacrifice of Jesus Christ!

This is not an easy task to take on in our lives.  In fact, when we stand firm on the authority of God’s word, there can be backlash and ridicule from Christians and non-Christians.  What a battle we are fighting!  The only way that we can compete in battle is by making sure that we are R.E.A.L. Christians.  We are going to take the next few posts to explore how the Apostle Paul has already given us instructions on how to live up to the expectation of being R.E.A.L. Christians in Ephesians 6:10-20.  The first part of being a R.E.A.L. Christian is that we need to be:

    Ready

    Ephesians 6:10-12 (NASB)

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Paul’s admonition is to be strong in the Lord!  It is too easy for us to be self-dependent based on what we know to be the norm in our lives.  Whether it’s the strength we find in our familiarity and knowledge of our work place or the knowledge we possess from scripture and other Christian influences, it is easy to become dependent on what we already know.  This dependency can then lead to complacency in our spiritual life.  We can become comfortable with our day to day living and not give a thought about what could potentially happen any given day.  The need for quiet time with the Lord through Bible reading and prayer does not seem urgent and often times falls by the wayside.  Even if we haven’t neglected our Bible reading and prayer time, the Devil will use his tactics to try and distract us and take us away from that precious time.  As Paul mentioned, “our struggle (battle!) is not against flesh and blood,” as these are the things that we can see on our own.  Rather, our battle is against “the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places,” which is why we absolutely need the help of the Lord every day!  We need to be Ready to stand strong against these schemes, as we are reminded by the Apostle Peter:

    1 Peter 5:8 (NASB)

“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert.  Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

    1 Peter 3:15 (NASB)

“but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.”

It is important that we are always ready for what may head our way.  Satan is trying to bring us down through temptation and trials that he sends our way.  We are also under attack from the critic who is hostile to the Gospel.  In either case, Peter has told us to be ready for the battle.  In order to be ready for the battle, we need to be properly Equipped, which we will look into next time.

Until then, be ready for what is coming your way!

    Serving the Risen Christ,
    Ken

    Conference Concluded

Well, we concluded the 3rd Annual New England Creation Conference on Sunday.  Thank you to everyone that was able to come out and make it a success!

We were blessed to have Dr. John Whitmore (PhD in Geology) from Cedarville University as our keynote speaker.  He provided great insight pertaining to the Flood, fossil record, and dinosaurs.  Other talks were provided by our very own AJ Guerette and Alan Beck.  Also, for the first time at a NECC, Ken Baratta and his wife, Bonnie, were able to arrange activities for kids ages 3-10.  They said that it was a great time of fun and learning, as well as a learning experience for them pertaining to children’s ministries.

Now that the 3rd Annual is behind us, we set our sights to planning the 4th Annual for next spring.

Stay tuned as we keep you updated on the opportunities that Northeast Creation Ministries has to serve our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

If you are interested in hosting an event or having one of our speakers come to your church, small group, or youth group, please contact us at info@northeastcreation.org

    God bless you all!

    A Brief Update

“Praise the Lord, all nations; laud Him, all peoples!  For His lovingkindness is great toward us, and the truth of the Lord is everlasting.  Praise the Lord!” (Psalm 117)

What a great weekend we had in the Belfast, ME area last weekend.  The Lord was faithful to provide wonderful churches to speak at in the morning and great attendance at the afternoon conference.  Thank you all for your wonderful support!

While it is a little out of the Northeast area (okay, a lot), please keep Ken in your prayers as he will be sharing at a church in Tennessee on November 18th.  We rejoice at the opportunities that the Lord has given us to proclaim His truth and to equip believers to defend the truth in “this present evil age” (Galatians 1:4).

Remember to “contend earnestly for the faith…” (Jude 3)
